What Country are you From?
Níhǎo xuésheng, nǐmen máng ma?
If you’re not too busy, you can watch this Groovi Pauly video. It’s a little silly, but you can learn a lot by watching … and even more if you sing along. Below are translations and descriptions, so you can verify what you think you are hearing.
Nǐ shì nǎ guó rén (What is your nationality?) |
jiào = called (lesson 3)
Many characters and puppets say their names and nationalities:
Shāyú (shark): ào dà lì yà rén (Italian)
Mr Bubbly Head: jiā ná dà rén (Canadian)
Policeman: xīnjiāpō rén (Singaporen)
Doudou calls himself bú shì rén (I am not a person)
The policeman calls himself bù kéyǐ xiānsheng (Mr. Not-allowed)
bù ké yǐ = not allowed (lesson 7)
xiānsheng = Mr. (lesson 3)
The final refrain is
Nǎ yí gè guó jiā? |
Nǎ yí gè = which one
guó jiā = country
