This post introduces 3 useful expressions “of course”, “delicious”, and “excellent” . These are the kind of words that help you sound authentic, and are used very frequently.
In Chinese there are two words for delicious. One for food (hǎo chī) and one for drink (hǎo hē). Literally “good eat” and “good drink”.
The word for “excellent” is búcuò, literally: “no errors”. It might sound a bit tepid in English, but it is high praise in Mandarin. For more details and a recording of the dialog, visit the post on our blog. Note, the tone of bú is second due to tone change rule: “When 不 (bu) is normally 4th tone, but when followed by a 4th tone word, it will change to 2nd tone.”
