Lantern Festival

元宵节快乐 Yuán Xiāo Jié kuài le!

Lantern Festival is celebrated on the first full moon following Chinese New Year (also known as Spring Festival). Spring Festival starts on the new moon and ends with Lantern Festival.

The Chinese name is 元宵节 (Yuán Xiāo Jié). 元 is an ancient word for “first” while 宵 is an ancient word for “night”. The day is celebrated by eating glutenous rice balls, solving puzzels and admiring lanterns at night. The rice ball dish are called Yuán Xiāo tāng, because they are serve in a warm sweet soupy liquid. Soup is called tāng
