Huangshan is Awesome
Here are some photos of my trip to Huangshan in 2015. It was totally awesome. (Note: click on the image above to see the whole photo). In the background of the first photo is The tallest peak in the cluster, called Celestial Peak. In another photo you can see people ascending a very long stairway to the summit of the Celestial Peak. And, to my surprise you can actually see a dozen tiny people standing near the summit. And just in case you can’t see it, I included a blurry-blowup.
If you take a look at the map you can see that the There are three routes and several entrances, including two trams. Embarrassingly, I had to take the tram up because of a bike injury three weeks earlier. But, as luck would have it, I got a ride up with the director of the park, who spoke perfect English, so I learned a lot, such as how all the trams were built and installed by a German company.
This trip was a blast for me, because I spent most of the whole 3 day adventure (taking buses, checking into hotels, buying tickets, etc) using only Mandarin. Beside the Park manager, I also had a long conversation in English with a graduating college student who had just been accepted into a Med school. Very impressive young man. I learned that the high schools are evolving away from rote memorization, but their life still hinges on one test taken in senior year. Its an SAT/ACT hybrid with no second chances.
